Two Colombian Cities in Top Ten American Cities for Foreign Direct Investment
FDI Intelligence, published yearly by Britain's Financial Times newspaper, listed Cali and Barranquilla among the Top 10 American Cities of the Future for foreign direct investment. This distinction was achieved after competing with 126 cities in North and South America including Montreal and Toronto (Canada), Chicago and Phoenix (USA), Guadalajara (Mexico), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Managua (Nicaragua) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The cities selected by the newspaper stand out for their investment, economic potential, human resources, infrastructure, and business friendliness. Although Bogotá and Barranquilla were listed previously, this is the first time for Cali. The capital of the Valle del Cauca department has opened itself to the world with events such as the Pacific Alliance Summit, the 2013 World Games, considered the most important sports competition after the Olympics, and the Third World Summit of Leaders of African Descent, which will welcome presidents from five African countries and some 500 mayors. The publication's 2013-2014 list included Barranquilla and Cali as numbers eight and ten, respectively, while Bogota and Pereira were also among the 126. See more >>
